T&T Tinting Specialists (often searched as TNT Tinting) has tinted windows in Honolulu since 1982. We install car window tint, windshield film, paint protection film (PPF), and residential, commercial, safety and decorative window film from two Oahu shops, Koapaka Airport and Kaka'ako, open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We're 100% employee-owned, and every quote comes with straight answers on Hawaii's tint law.

What We Install
Whatever you need tinted, one team handles it, from a single car to a full office building. Here's what we install.
Our auto tint work covers cars, trucks, SUVs and vans, with film lines from FormulaOne (including Stratos), LLumar and CoolVu. Most Hawaii drivers choose ceramic window tint for heat control and clarity, and we also tint Teslas and other EVs.

Clear paint protection film guards bumpers, hoods, mirrors and other high-impact areas against rock chips, sand and salt air.
Home window film cuts glare, heat and UV and adds daytime privacy, without changing your windows or your view.
We install commercial window film for offices, hotels, storefronts and facilities, including energy and security film for buildings.
Safety and security films, including DefenseLite and C-Bond systems, help hold glass together when it's struck. Graffiti shield is a clear, replaceable layer that protects glass from scratching and tagging.

Film Options
Window tint is a thin film applied to the inside of the glass. The material in the film decides how it looks and how it handles heat.

Hawaii Tint Law
Hawaii's window tint rules are in Hawaii Revised Statutes §291-21.5, last updated by Act 129, approved May 29, 2025 (Act 129). In plain language:
35% VLT
At least 35% visible light transmission (VLT), plus or minus 6%.
Exempt
Exempt, including the rear windshield.
Exempt
Exempt on sedans, vans, minivans, trucks and buses that have rearview mirrors on both sides.
AS-1 line
Tint is allowed only along the top, above the AS-1 line, or no more than four inches down if there's no AS-1 mark. Clear film on the rest of the windshield must meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 205.
Not allowed
Mirrored or highly reflective film that looks red, yellow, amber or blue from outside isn't allowed.
$300–$1,200
Act 129 raised fines to $300 to $550 for vehicle owners and $700 to $1,200 for installers of non-compliant tint, and drivers and passengers must roll their windows down at a traffic stop.

Pricing
Every quote depends on a few things: the vehicle or building, how many windows you're tinting, the film line and shade, the size and shape of the glass, and whether old film has to be removed first. Ceramic and specialty films cost more than basic dyed film, and PPF is priced by how much of the vehicle you cover. The quickest way to an exact number is a free estimate at either location.

FAQs
We have two Honolulu shops: Koapaka Airport at 3035 Koapaka Street (808-423-8468) and Kaka'ako at 751 Pohukaina Street (808-596-8468). Both are open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Under HRS §291-21.5, front side windows need at least 35% visible light transmission, plus or minus 6%. Rear windows are exempt, and side windows behind the driver are exempt on sedans, vans, minivans, trucks and buses with mirrors on both sides. Windshield film can't go below the AS-1 line.
Not on the front side windows, which must allow at least 35% light transmission (plus or minus 6%). Darker film such as 20% can be legal on rear windows, and on side windows behind the driver for the vehicle types the law lists, when the vehicle has mirrors on both sides.
For most Oahu drivers, ceramic film is the best balance of heat control, clarity and electronics-friendly performance, and you can choose a lighter shade without giving up comfort. We'll show you film samples at either shop so you can compare.
