1. Uniform Tint Standards Across Vehicle Types
Front Side Windows (All Vehicles): Must allow at least 35% Visible Light Transmission (VLT), with a permissible variance of ±6%.
Rear Side and Rear Windows:
SUVs, Vans, and Trucks: May have any level of tint darkness.
Sedans: Now permitted to have any level of tint darkness on rear side and rear windows, aligning with standards for other vehicle types.
2. Windshield Tinting
Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed only on the top 4 inches of the windshield or above the AS-1 line, whichever is lower.
3. Prohibition of Certain Tint Finishes
Mirrored or High Reflective Finishes: Tints that produce a red, yellow, amber, or blue appearance from the exterior are prohibited on any window.
4. Compliance Certificate Requirement
Installers: Must issue a compliance certificate at the time of tint installation, certifying that the tint meets legal standards.
Drivers: Required to keep the compliance certificate in the vehicle at all times as proof of legal tinting.
5. Window Operation During Traffic Stops
Requirement: All drivers and passengers must fully roll down their tinted windows during traffic stops to allow clear visibility for law enforcement officers.
Exceptions: This requirement does not apply to individuals who are physically unable to do so or in cases of mechanical failure, provided that the driver communicates or cooperates through other reasonable means.
6. Penalties for Non-Compliance
Drivers: May face fines ranging from $300 to $550 for illegal tinting.
Installers: May be fined between $700 and $1,200 for applying non-compliant tint and are required to either replace the tint at no cost or reimburse the vehicle owner.
